Welcome to the GALLANT Regenerating Vacant and Derelict Land Annual Workshop!

This year, we are excited to host our annual event at the Advanced Research Centre (ARC), University of Glasgow. Join us for a day filled with insightful discussions, interactive sessions, and networking opportunities.

The day will be split in two sessions. The morning session will focus on an interactive workshop, open to anyone with a general interst in VDL regeneration. The afternoon session will focus on a technical showcase of GALLANT VDL researchers progress on the developed technogiologies for VDL regeneration, aimed at stakeholders with technical expertise on soil pollution remediation.

Please register to attend to the whole day, or choose your preferred session according to your interest!

Morning session: GALLANT Systems Transformation Workshop

Building on previous GALLANT and GCC work, the purpose of this participatory session is to bring together stakeholders to further explore a systems approach to regenerating vacant and derelict land. The city’s ambitious goals are outlined in the Thriving Glasgow Portrait. In this workshop we aim to create a systems map highlighting current actors and activity as well as identifying enablers and barriers to progress. This session forms part of the research programme of the GALLANT systems transformation workstream and participants will be asked to sign a consent form before taking part. The workshop findings will be written up in a practical report and an article for an academic journal.

Afternoon session: Technical Research Showcase

GALLANT VDL researchers will present the outcomes of their research approaches to tackle soil pollution and carbon capture and storage in Glasgow VDL soils. These technologies include:

  • Chemical carbonation
  • Enzyme-Induced Calcite Precipitation
  • Biochar and spent coffe ground
  • Microbial-Induced Calcite Precipitation
