Join us for a Galician language taster session, where you’ll get a friendly, hands-on introduction to Galician pronunciation, basic phrases, and cultural context. Galician (galego) is a Romance language spoken in the autonomous community of Galicia, in northwest Spain. With deep historical roots and close ties to both Spanish and Portuguese, it offers a fascinating case study in language contact, identity, and regional culture.
No previous knowledge is required for this taster: just bring your curiosity and a willingness to try something new! Whether you're studying linguistics, Spanish, Portuguese, or just love discovering new languages, this is a great opportunity to engage with a minority (and minoritised) language with loads to offer!
Spanish Sign Language Taster
Curious about the rich and varied linguistic landscape of Spain? Come along to our Spanish Sign Language (Lengua de Signos Española – LSE) taster session, led by final-year students who took LSE as a module during their year abroad! In this friendly, interactive session, you’ll get an introduction to basic signs, key expressions, and Deaf culture in Spain.
Spanish Sign Language is a vibrant, visual language used by the Deaf community across much of Spain, with its own grammar, structure, and regional variation. It offers a unique insight into how language, identity, and communication intersect beyond the spoken word.
No prior knowledge is needed — just your curiosity and your hands! Whether you study languages, linguistics, education, or simply love learning new ways to communicate, this is a fantastic opportunity to discover a different side of Spain’s linguistic diversity and to learn directly from students who’ve experienced it first-hand.
