Meet trip leader Maggie Paxson in the parking lot for the Hawthorne Trail Access at Boulware Springs, approximately here: 29.621914,-82.308425 (parking area North of waterworks entrance). We'll take a leisurely walk North down the Hawthorne trail, looking out for red-tailed hawks, American kestrels, shrikes, and site specialties Red-headed woodpeckers and bobwhite quail. We'll return through the fields East of the Hawthorne trail, where an unpaved but level trail criss-crosses through a mixture of fire-treated pine and dry grassland, for a round trip of about a mile. The Gainesville YBC is open to students aged 9-18, but younger siblings are welcome with parental supervision. Students should wear closed-toe shoes and sunscreen and bring water for the walk. You may also wish to apply bug spray. Loaner binoculars are available for students who cannot bring their own pair. Questions? Email [email protected]
