Join us for another exciting installment of Gainesville Modern's MOD Talks lecture series. The closing event to Gainesville Modern Weekend 2026 presented by Atlantic Design Homes will be Sunday, March 22nd. The MOD Talks speaker is Dr. Wayne Wood and his talk: The Remarkable Mid-Century Architecture of Northeast Florida and Its Links to Gainesville.
Following World War II, Jacksonville experienced a major period of growth, and many emerging young architects were attracted to the area. They were emboldened to create distinctive and modern building forms, exploring new technology and materials. Architects like William Morgan, Robert Broward, Paul Rudolph, Welton Becket, Kendrick Bangs Kellogg, Bruce Goff, and Taylor Hardwick were among those who created modern masterpieces in northeast Florida. This slide-illustrated lecture will showcase the variety and abundance of architectural gems in the Jacksonville area, as well as buildings in Gainesville by many of these same architects.
For the first time, we are thrilled to host the lecture at the beautiful University of Florida Emerson Alumni Hall at 1938 West University Avenue, Gainesville. Doors open at 1:30 PM and the lecture will be from 2 to 3 PM.
Parking will be available on campus across the street.
While we have expanded capacity, this is one of our most popular events. Please be sure to reserve your tickets early. Light refreshments provided.

He also was founder of the Riverside Arts Market, a huge free arts and entertainment venue that attracts thousands each week. He has published nineteen books on Northeast Florida, and his best-known book is the classic, Jacksonville's Architectural Heritage: Landmarks for the Future. His latest book is about the famed Florida architect, Kenneth Treister.
