The Gainesville Fruitluck is back! Let's all gather and celebrate the bountiful production of fruit trees from different climate zones and regions of the globe, as we share good conversation with other fruit lovers. Just bring fruit to share - any fruit. Whether it's from your yard, the farmers market, foraged from the wild, or grown far away and purchased from a store, it will be a welcome addition. The mix of fruits from near and far is what makes a fruituck special. The main focus here is whole & unprocessed fruits, but if you want to make a fruit-based concoction, that’s great too (this is a vegan-friendly event, so please make sure any fruit-based dishes are free of animal products).
Because of the winter freeze and current drought, there's not as much local fruit as usual right now. But there are blueberries, strawberries, peaches, nectarines, and some growers have Cherry of the Rio Grande fruiting right now.
Asian and Latin/Caribbean markets have tropicals (Chun Chung currently has lots of jackfruit at a good price, yum!) Or just stop at any grocery and pick up some fruit to share.
The event is at Greentree Park, 3600 NW 19th St, Gainesville. It's under a canopy, so we'll be there rain or shine. There is free parking available, but since this spot is pretty centrally located in Gainesville, why not get save some fossil fuels, get exercise in the fresh air and ride your bike there?
The event is kid friendly. Children like fruit as much as adults, so feel free to bring your little ones - this is a chance to broaden their fruit horizons. There is a playground on site. (Of course, this is a public park, so be sure to supervise children as at any public location) The park has restrooms.
Dogs are welcome at Green Tree Park on a leash.
There is no charge. Just bring fruit.
