About this Event
Come along and join us at this hands-on workshop as we learn about the final stage of preparing a length of Scottish tweed. Members of Sgioba Luaidh Inbhirchluaidh (Inverclyde Waulking Group) will explain the process and teach us some traditional Gaelic waulking songs, sung by the (mostly) women of the Outer Hebrides to accompany their work during the dark winter months.
No singing experience or knowledge of Gaelic required. You can choose to join us at the table as we work the sample of dry cloth, or sit back and listen. Tea, coffee, and cake provided. Optional – you may wish to bring your own head scarf.
Suitable for ages 15+. The event will take place in the Moir/Dyer/Simpson Room.
This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 7–16 November 2024.
