About this Event

In a major step forward for healthcare in the North East, Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary is preparing to open a state-of-the-art Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) in early 2026. Nestled beside the hospital’s existing emergency department, this purpose-built facility is designed to ease pressure on A&E by providing dedicated care for patients with urgent, but non-life-threatening, health needs.

The new center will operate 24/7, offering same-day treatment for illnesses and injuries that require prompt attention but don’t warrant emergency intervention. With modern clinical spaces, separate waiting areas, and a streamlined layout, the UTC aims to improve patient flow and reduce waiting times. Its proximity to the main hospital ensures seamless access to additional services and flexible staffing.

Led by Robertson Construction and designed by P+HS Architects, the project reflects a shared commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare.

With completion expected by mid-December 2025 and doors opening in January 2026, the UTC is set to become a vital asset for Newcastle, enhancing urgent care delivery and supporting the city’s wider health system
