Fuzzy Signals by Bill MinerSince launching in 1979, Harmony Radio has flourished as a cornerstone of community radio in the outer gulf islands, guided by station owner Alfred Peters, who nurtured a quirky, imaginative programming style, with longtime volunteer Helen Everet creating some of Harmony’s most popular shows.
It’s now 2002 and dear Mr. Peters has shuffled off his mortal coil, leaving Harmony Radio to his son, Larry Peters who currently resides in Toronto, with his fiancé Carla Michaels. Carla believes anywhere west of the Pearson Airport to be cultural terra incognita and a community radio station on a west coast gulf island capable only of sending out weather reports to whaling fleets. However, Carla is in desperate need of a radio station at the moment. Any radio station. So it’s westward ho with Larry in tow and Harmony is destined for discord.
