Autumn and the many colours of the “fall” have inspired both poets and artists alike over the years. But now scientists are equally amazed! You may have heard of the wood wide web, the network made up of roots, fungi and microbes in biochemical communication underground. The mushrooms we find in autumn can spring up overnight. They are just the fruiting bodies of each fungal mycelium. We shall have an expert guide who knows all the different variations of our local eco-system. The colourful and curious fungi are often easy to spot whilst others may be hidden in plain sight.Come prepared whatever the weather. Starting at Fort Widley we shall head north to see what mushrooms we encounter. This walk is unsuitable for pushchairs and there is no charge. Please use public parking near The Churchillian or at the viewpoint.
