Hey everyone! 👋 Hailey here:
You may have heard how busy Amanda and I have been this summer/fall, TNR-ing cats off the streets of Albert Lea. What started as catching a couple stray kittens, quickly escalated into a full-blown mission to capture and reduce the number of feral cats in our community. Of the 50+ (we have lost count at this point) we have captured since July, only 3️⃣ were spayed/neutered. Also, 99% of those captured have been from just one area. All of the cats have been INFESTED with fleas and worms. Some were covered in lice. Many had giardia and severe diarrhea. To say these cats are unhealthy and severely neglected is an understatement. We're aware there are people in town feeding these cats, thinking their misplaced kindness is enough, but we really need to capture these cats for vaccination and alteration for their health, as well as public safety reasons. Luckily, we've been able to place a handful into rescue with Kitty Revolution and our local humane society.
The Humane Society of Freeborn County and Camp Companion's TNR program have both been so generous in helping us with resources to get these cats healthy and neutered. Due to the overwhelming number of cats and kittens, we have limited available intake and vet appointments through our local rescues. Thus, Amanda and I have both put some of the spay/vax expenses on our personal credit cards. While we are happy to do that in the meantime, we are still facing several upcoming vet appointments. We've received some incredible donations already. We're really just out here trying to do some good for the cats and the community. Amanda has been working like a mad woman running a business and housing these ferals until they can be altered and released. The amount of cleaning and sanitation alone, not to mention food and litter expenses, would be enough to drive me insane. We are in need of funds to keep doing the work. Since we are not a non-profit foundation or tax-deductable donation, Amanda and I are offering a nail trim drive to raise money towards the continued expenses not covered by our local resources. On SUNDAY, Nov. 23rd, nail trims will be from 12-3 pm, cost a flat $15, but will be CASH ONLY. All money collected will go towards our previous credit card bills as well as the neuter appointments we already have lined up. PLEASE spread the word and bring your pets to see us! We already know we're going to have a great turnout from our already generous and wonderful customers! This is really a passion-project so close to our hearts, we'd really appreciate any support we can get. 🙏
