Fundraiser & Film Screening: SupPORT Their Inclusion
The SupPORT Pathways Program by LACW aims to break the stigma and isolation
experienced by women who have had contact with the criminal legal system, supporting
them to engage in community sports activities. Reintegrating back into society after facing
criminalisation can pose numerous challenges for these women, and participation in sports
can offer avenues for positive and meaningful connections. Through playing, volunteering, or
coaching, the women we support can find belonging within the broader community,
acknowledged for their strengths rather than their past. With your support, we can empower
more women and gender-diverse individuals to overcome structural barriers and find a
sense of connection through sport.
To help raise funds for the Program, LACW invites you to a night of celebration, understanding
and advocacy. Following the launch of the CIJ’s evaluation of the SupPORT Pathways
Program, LACW will be screening the documentary ‘Equal the Contest’ (Best First Feature
Documentary 2023 MQFF Award). This film follows the development of an all-inclusive,
women and gender-diverse AFL club in regional Victoria. The film highlights many of the
same challenges criminalised women face regarding recognition, acceptance, inclusion, and
a right to be visible.
We’re also honoured to welcome Peggy O’Neal AO, former Richmond Football Club
President and current RMIT Chancellor, to ‘kick off’ proceedings for the night.
Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of a movement for change. Grab your tickets now and
help us build community connection. Let’s rewrite their script.
See you there!
