Natasha Caruana is a British artist based in Margate, Kent, working across photography, moving image, installation and drawing.
In 2020, she co-found Work Show Grow, an international creative education platform supporting creatives to build sustainable practices, cultivate confidence and secure funding for their work. Her mentorship emphasises community-building and demystifying the realities of sustaining a career in the arts.
Caruana holds an MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art. Her work has been exhibited widely, including solo presentations at the Centre de la photographie de Mougins (A Lover’s Discourse, 2021-22), the Centre for British Photography (Fairytale for Sale, 2023), the International Center of Photography, New York (Married Man, 2016), and Les Rencontres d’Arles and Paris Photo (At First Sight, 2014-15). She is the recipient of the BMW Artist in Residence Award and has been longlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize twice. Caruana is also a Trustee of Photoworks (UK).
Funding Your Work – A Guide for Photographers
TALK SUMMARY:
Curious about funding your photography, but not sure where to start? This in-person session is for photographers who feel funding is “for other people” or have no idea what to put in an application yet.
Together, we’ll unpack the worries that hold people back - fear of rejection, feeling “not established enough,” or not knowing how to describe your ideas. We’ll look at what funders are looking for, how to spot opportunities that fit you, and simple ways to turn a vague project idea into something you can confidently talk about on an application form.
You’ll leave with:
- A clearer sense of what funding is (and isn’t)
- Practical starting points for your own projects
- The confidence to take your first small steps rather than waiting until you feel “ready”.
There’ll be space for questions and examples from real projects. The session will be an honest, supportive conversation about how photographers at all stages can begin to fund their work.
