This is a  four hour fundamental class introducing stained glass using the Tiffany method of glass cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering. Pieces will be finished with polish and instructions on the best methods to showcase their projects. Students will use a template and take home a finished piece of art. This class offers a wonderful experience for creating a handmade craft that is perfect for adding a personal touch to your home decor or gifting something special. Students will choose their own colors of glass.

Fundamental Class Details:

  • Duration: 3.5 - 4 hours per session
  • Frequency: Single session
  • Location: MakerSpace Charlotte in Plaza Midwood
  • Materials: All materials and tools provided, however, students have the opportunity to purchase alternative glass onsite. 

Class Overview:

This class provides a supportive environment tailored to all skill levels, especially beginners. We will use a template to create our plant stakes or suncatchers (you decide the way your art will live in your space). We will discuss design creation for your intermediate projects ahead. Students will learn and perform the basics of glass selection, cutting, grinding, foiling, burnishing, soldering, cleaning, using patina, and polishing.

  • Foiling and burnishing cut and ground pieces of glass
  • Preparing your piece for soldering
  • Applying flux for solder 
  • Soldering your pieces of glass together
  • Adding a hanging accessory or copper rod 
  • How to neutralize the flux and clean your piece
  • How to apply and neutralize patina
  • Polish finished piece before taking it home!

  • A fun, relaxed atmosphere

Who Should Attend:Perfect for all skill levels, whether you’re starting a new hobby or deepening your stained glass skills.

AGES:

Class is open to ages 16 and up.

All crafting supplies are provided. Please wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Sometimes solder splatters, so please consider wearing long sleeves. YOU MUST wear closed-toe shoes, tie back long hair, and wear glasses or safety glasses. Safety glasses are provided.

If you wear readers, please remember to bring them.

It’s a 4 hour class, you are welcome to bring snacks and a drink. 



Class will continue regardless of class size.

• 14+ days: Full refund

• 7–13 days: 50% refund

• Less than 7 days: No refund

• If you find someone to take your spot and they pay before class starts, you’ll receive a full refund.

The instructor, Kenna Covington is a local stained glass artist known for her love of beauty and passion for connection and story telling through color and light. Her work often draws inspiration from nature, personal experience, and literature. As an instructor, Kenna shares her expertise with students of all levels, guiding them through the intricate processes of stained glass creation—from design to execution. Her warm, encouraging teaching style fosters a creative environment, allowing each student to explore their unique artistic voice.
