https://backabuddy.co.za/campaign/fund-a-fairyFar out into the green, between the milkwood trees, there stands a little world of wonder known as Fairy Knowe Backpackers.
For many seasons now, beneath the beams of thatch and awe, songs have risen like spells cast in joy, love, and more — guitars, flutes, horns and lutes sing together as the sound of smiling echoes across the valley. A place where wanderers gather, musical magicians find refuge, magical musicians make memories, and while the world beyond seems almost forgotten, friendships are forged forever.
Yet beyond the warm lights of Fairyland, another tale has long been unfolding.
For it has long been the way that when songs take root and ring loud, there remain those beyond the hedgerows who hear not the magic, but only the thunder of distant revelry. Thus has the long contest endured — complaints and grievance, one after another, borne like dark ravens upon the wind, until now the struggle has reached its darkest hour.
The battle with nearby ears and voices of dissent wages on, and the fate of live music as we Knowe it, now hangs in balance.
If the songs are to endure, if the wandering minstrels are still to find a hearth here, if the laughter of strangers becoming friends is to continue beneath our trees, then a great change must be made.
The Knowe must be fortified.
Foam, timber, and craft must now be summoned for a mighty undertaking: serious soundproofing. It is no small labour, nor a light expense, but it is the path by which the music may survive and Fairy may remain a haven for all who cherish such things.
And so the fairies send word across the wilderness and beyond, to all who have ever shared a song here, slept beneath our roof, danced within our realm, or found some small belonging in this place:
We ask for your aid.
A gathering shall be held — a great weekend of music and fellowship — where all who love this place may stand together in defence of what it means.
On the Friday night, shall the first song begin.
Then through Saturday and into Sunday, musicians shall come one after another, carrying melodies like banners into the day, until the Knowe is filled once more with the very thing we seek to protect.
There shall be food from our humble kitchen to strengthen all who gather:
Homemade burgers fresh from the fire 🍔
Home-crumbed chicken strips, golden and warm 🍗
Tasty beef rotis, rich and ravenous 🌯
Every meal shared will lend strength to the cause, for all proceeds will go toward the soundproofing of our beloved fairy walls.
There will stand a donation box for those who wish to place a little extra blessing into the hands of the fairies, and for those far afield or unable to attend, an online Fund-a-Fairy link may be found above and below, so that support may travel from distant places too.
This is more than a fundraiser.
It is a calling of the clans, a keeping of the flame, a stand for live music and all that it carries: the stories, the healing, the rebellion, the joy, the belonging, the wild spark that reminds us we are alive.
For if music falls silent in places such as these, then something rare is lost from the world.
So come, if you can.
Come raise a glass, share a meal, offer what you are able, and let Fairyland ring once more — not in defiance, but in hope.
For the Fairy has not yet sung its final song. ✨🎻🕯️🧚
