Join us Thursday, November 14th at The Kali Cave for a Vedic Fire Ceremony in honor of November’s Full Mourning Moon and the goddess Dhumavati.Vedic Fire Ceremony is one of the oldest yogic practices going back thousands of years. It is an ancient ritual during which offerings are made to a sacrificial fire, said to transform what which we wish to be free from for the path ahead.
The evening will begin with philosophy and storytelling centered around the Mourning Moon and the goddess Dhumavati, the crone goddess of the void who teaches us how to sit with our disappointment and let go. We’ll take some time to contemplate and journal and share a little with our fellow community members. We’ll then move into pranayama before starting the formal ritual.
The ritual begins with elemental offerings to the divine: the building of a sacred fire in a vessel representing the earth’s womb; blessed water, flower, and food offerings; and smoke, incense, and sound moving into the ethers. During the heart of the ritual, ghee (clarified butter) will be offered to the fire 108 times along with the chanting of 108 names of the divine feminine, during which attendees are invited to throw into the fire offerings representing all we wish to be transformed. The ritual culminates with mantras and Aarti (a sacred offering of the light) and time together in the arms of community.
Feel free to bring an item significant to you to place around the altar. Pillows and blankets will be available to sit on but please feel free to bring your own pillows, blankets, or sheep skins to make yourself comfortable. Prasad (blessed food) from the ritual will be shared after. Feel free to bring something to share with the group if you feel called to.
I look forward to sharing this practice and time with you.
