It shines like a supernova in Norway’s musical firmament, an unforgettable epoch of unbridled creativity that went on to establish the country’s leading lights in electronic dance music. At its core it was Disco, but from House to Techno, nothing escaped its sphere of influence. It gave rise to the likes Lindstrøm, Bjørn Torkse and Prins Thomas, but its tendrils of influence can be felt everywhere in Norway’s music scene today, including Jaeger and g-HA & Olanskii.
It happened long ago in what is perceivable a galaxy far far away, but ten years ago, Paper Recordings immortalised it in film with Norwegian Disco Lights. The film stands as its own cultural touch stone today and Frædag teams up with the label yet again to celebrate the film and its significance with a very special lineup featuring some of the talking heads in the film.

Lindstrøm
Raised on country and western music in the outskirts of the Norwegian oil town Stavanger, Hans-Peter Lindstrøm now lives in Oslo where he is making contemporary disco and running his Feedelity label. Since launching his career as an artist in the early 2000’s Lindstrøm released a consistent flow of highly acclaimed EPs, singles and remixes and todayLindstrøm enjoys a cult-like status within dance music circles. Although the humble guy himself is happy doing what he loves on an underground scale, his reputation as an artist and live performer precedes him wherever he goes.
Bjørn Torske
Bjørn Torske comes from the capital of electronic music in Norway, Tromsø, and has staked his claim as one of the forefathers of House music in Norway alongside the likes of Rune Lindbæk, Mental Overdrive and Biosphere. From a sleepy university/fishing town above the arctic circle, transmitting the early sounds of House music through local radio, Bjørn Torske has come to International acclaim for his vast musical purview from the DJ booth and his unique sound as an artist through seminal albums like Trøbbel and Nedi Myra. Today he is an institution in himself for Norway and a fixture within this country’s rich electronic music history.
Helene Rickhard
Helene is a hidden gem in the Norwegian electronic music underground. Unknown to the outside world, but a beloved dj and producer here back home. Known for her eclectic dj-sets, adventurous taste and her ear watering record collection. She is living a quiet life in the coastal town of Arendal with her cats, records and her analog synths, but can often be found playing around Oslo’s many underground institutions.
Paper Recordings
Paper Recordings is a Manchester-based record company. It releases contemporary electronic music from an international roster of recording artists, integrating the genres of house, disco, funk, jazz, techno and soul. Along with Nuphonic, Glasgow Underground Recordings and 20/20 Vision recordings, it was famously part of the Nu-Disco genre in the late 1990s and 2000s.
It released the debut album in 1997 from Tromsø band Those Norwegians, comprising Rune Lindbæk, Ole Johan Mjøs [ and Torbjørn Brundtland who went on to form Röyksopp with Svein Berge. This album was titled Kaminsky Park, a pun on Comiskey Park that witnessed the Disco Demolition Night protests in 1979 and with its LP artwork depicting a burnt and warped 12″ vinyl.
Notable musicians, artists and producers that have worked with the label includes (amongst many others) Crazy P, Rasmus Faber, Xpress 2, Eddie ‘Flashin’ Fowlkes, Ashley Beedle, Greg Wilson, Silicone Soul, Ladytron, Kenny Hawkes, Two Lone Swordsmen (Andrew Weatherall and Keith Tennison), Derrick Carter, Håkan Lidbo, Andy Votel, Faze Action, Richard Norris, Matthew Herbert, Zed Bias, Ralph Myerz, Mike Lindsay (Tunng), Jane Weaver, Ian Pooley, Kathy Diamond, Anoraak, Bill Brewster and Mathias Stubø.
Flash Atkins
Flash Atkins is a super hero who has fallen on hard times and can be spotted in the less salubrious parts of London, Manchester and West Yorkshire often stoned or drunk on borrowed money and time. To make ends meet he uses his special powers to remix and make deep disco music for Paper Recordings. Let’s hope it gets him back on track.
g-HA & Olanskii
Two pivotal bodies in the sphere of Norwegian electronic music, g-HA & Olanskii are an event, a club, a DJ duo, and a musical authority for Norway. Individually adept as DJ, selectors and tastemaker, Ola “Olanskii” Smith-Simonsen and Geir “g-HA” Holger’s musical voices unified for Sunkissed, an events series that has become the backbone of Oslo’s electronic music scene and beyond.
