About this Event
We invite farmers working various sizes of land, from micro to small, to join us for a conversation and workshop about building relationships with restaurant customers.
With experience purchasing directly from local farmers for Good Eggs, Jon & Vinnys, and the Gjelina Group, our presenters Sam Rogers and Bethany Harris will be sharing tactical information for chefs and farmers to better understand how to prepare for and establish farm to restaurant relationships.
Samantha Rogers
For over a decade, Samantha Rogers has been a link between Los Angeles' top chefs and the small local farms that supply them. Her mission is to connect farmers with restaurants, ensuring that the finest produce moves seamlessly from field to kitchen. Samantha’s work goes beyond curating vegetable sales; it’s about fostering relationships where both chefs and farmers trust in the quality and craftsmanship each brings to the table.
Bethany Harris
Bethany is the farm liaison for Gjelina Group. She has cultivated strong relationships with farmers at the local farmers markets in Los Angeles. As a farm liaison, she coordinated the pick up, delivery, and storage that creates a more efficient system for restaurants and suppliers.
More information about the new Cultivating Farmers Program:
Cultivating Farmers prioritizes supporting and centering underrepresented growers. To that end, we offer mileage stipends for growers who are located more than 20 miles away from this event. Please review the FAQ for more on this.
Cultivating Farmers is a new initiative of the LA Food Policy Council that offers crucial support to underserved and beginning farmers and ranchers in Los Angeles and neighboring counties. Our goal is to provide essential business development guidance to help navigate the complexities of farm management, including zoning, permits, and accessing government resources. Our efforts are focused on BIPOC and Veteran agricultural professionals, ensuring they receive the support needed to thrive. Through workshops led by community experts and personalized 1:1 office hours, we will equip growers with the tools for success. Additionally, in partnership with the CDFA, we will introduce a competitive grant initiative for farmers later this year.
