How should we make sense of state-tech relations in an age of platformisation and AI?
About this Event

How should we make sense of state-tech relations in an age of platformisation and AI? Whilst much has been said about the advent of data-driven governance and the regulatory features of platforms and AI, we still lack an adequate understanding of their wider political economy and what this means for the role of the state, public institutions and the nature of state power. In this talk, Professor Lina Dencik provides an analysis of how platforms and AI are embedded in society as infrastructures and argue that the political economy underpinning their advancement risks displacing public institutions and positions the state as a ‘tenant’.
