Presenter: Dr Dionysios Kyropoulos*
(A two-hour online workshop, offering 2 hours PASSHE Accredited CPD - this workshop was originally given at the PASSHE National Conference in June 2024).
A significant number of students with SpLDs experience co-occurring executive dysfunction, and difficulties with task initiation in particular can often be the most tricky for tutors to address. This is because problems with task initiation can affect even students that exhibit strong motivation and possess a well-structured plan of action.
When good guidance leads to avoidance and procrastination, coaching techniques could be a powerful additional tool for specialist tutors to break the cycle and empower their students to take action.
This 2-hour workshop explores how using a non-directive approach to teaching, based on the principles of coaching, could be beneficial in helping students effectively address difficulties with task initiation.
The workshop (originally given at the in-person PASSHE Conference in June 24) is being held online, via Zoom and will run from 12.30 - 2.30pm on Thursday13th February 2025.
