Create your own paper flower from a copper etching during this two-day workshop with the fabulous visiting artist Stephanie Berrie from Spit Bite Studios in Ludlow Kentucky. Learn how to cut a petal shape from a copper plate, then line etch, and aquatint that plate with a design of your choosing. You will then be able to print that plate using a la poupee, a process to add multiple colors, to create unique and vibrant petal prints. The prints will then be cut, glued, and shaped into a flower of your choosing; each participant will leave this workshop with their very own flower creation. Previous intaglio experience preferred but is not necessary! Materials will be provided by the class.Class Breakdown:
Day 1: Introductions, demo on cutting copper with a jeweler’s saw and polishing plates, demo on line etching and aquatint, possible demo on printing if time permits! Any extra time is for participants to work on their plates
Day 2: Demo on crafting the paper flowers: how to cut, glue, and shape them into different flower types and shapes. Majority of the day will be work time to work on plates, make flowers, etc.
