About this Event

Following four months of maritime siege, during which U.S. military forces killed more than 100 people in alleged anti-drug operations in the Caribbean, the Trump administration launched a large-scale attack on Venezuelan territory in the early hours of January 3, resulting in dozens of fatalities and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The incursion marks the first direct attack by U.S. forces on South American territory in modern history. While much of the Chavista leadership remains intact, Trump has said that the United States will "run" Venezuela for the foreseeable future. What does this mean for Venezuela and the changing shape of U.S. intervention in the Americas?
Join CLACS, the North American Congress on Latin America (NACLA), and NYU Global Journalism for a conversation on the crisis in Venezuela. This event is open to the public both in person and via Zoom. Please register in advance; note that physical seating is limited.
