About this Event
From Middle-earth to the End of the World: Music from Screen & Console
This summer, we invite you on a cinematic choral journey through some of the most powerful and emotionally resonant music ever written for film, television and games.
From the haunting pulse of Running Up That Hill and the fragile stillness of When It’s Cold I’d Like to Die (familiar to audiences of Stranger Things and The Sopranos), to the aching, other-worldly soundscapes of Jessica Curry’s music for Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, this programme explores how voices tell stories beyond words.
We travel through war and ritual with Hans Zimmer’s God Yu Tekkem Laef Blong Mi, through nostalgia and loss with Perfect Day and the timeless songs of Fallout, and into re-imagined pop anthems such as Take On Me from The Last of Us. Classical beauty meets cinematic intimacy in the Letter Duet (Mozart) and Delibes’ Flower Duet, reborn on screen in The Shawshank Redemption and Carlito’s Way.
Epic fantasy collides with darkness and light in music from The Lord of the Rings, before joy and colour burst through with Disney favourites, Zero to Hero, and the quiet introspection of What Was I Made For? from Barbie. The programme closes with music that asks big questions — about identity, memory, love and survival — all through the human voice.
