From Ground Zero, coordinated and funded by Gaza-born Palestinian director Rashid Masharawi, is the Palestinian entry for the 97th Academy Awards’ best international film category. 22 films, 3-7 minutes each, they provide internally displaced artist-survivors of Israel’s year-long assault - which has resulted in horrific humanitarian conditions, destruction, mass killing, starvation, disease, and trauma for the people of Gaza - with a “canvas for the expression of personal stories.” These testimonies testify to Gazan’s daily struggle to survive, and to do so with dignity.
“From Ground Zero” is an urgent response to an ongoing catastrophe, and an artist’s call to bear witness.
