About this Event
Join us on February 7th for an inspiring session with John P. Dortch, a dynamic leader, entrepreneur, and community advocate whose journey exemplifies resilience and service.
John hails from rural Camden, Alabama, where he overcame personal challenges to pursue education and success. After graduating with honors from Tennessee State University, he embarked on a distinguished career in human resources, rising to Vice President of Corporate Human Resources at Parkview Hospital. In 2004, he launched The Preston Group, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in leadership development, celebrating 20 years of impact in 2024.
A dedicated entrepreneur, John founded several ventures, including a barber shop, Fort Wayne Ink Spot, a growing minority newspaper, and The Penta C.S. Group, a minority entrepreneurial center providing office and conference space for small businesses. He also established The Dream Center in 2023, focusing on connecting resources and nurturing dreams for community transformation.
John’s passion for giving back is reflected in his mentorship programs, including SCORE, which helps formerly incarcerated youth secure jobs, and STAR, teaching essential life skills to middle and high school students. His workshops on entrepreneurship and professional development have empowered countless individuals.
As an author, John has written three books, including the bestseller In My Father’s House, which sold over 25,000 copies, and Built to Lead, a guide to mentorship. His latest, Your Pocket Guide to Corporate America, offers practical advice for climbing the corporate ladder.
John’s community involvement is unparalleled. He donates hundreds of newspapers monthly to shelters and jails and serves on various boards, including Smith Academy and TEA in Montgomery, Alabama. His life motto, “If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living will not be in vain,” captures his unwavering commitment to service.
