About this Event
From Function To Fantasy.
The Brooch from 1200BCE to the Contemporary.
Wartski, 60 St James’s, London SW1.
Wednesday 8th October at 9.30am.
Wartski are world-renowned for their stunning and carefully curated exhibitions, and this one also celebrates the 160th anniversary of the founding of the business in Wales. I know that From Function to Fantasy will be academically informative and lots of fun too.
The Friends will have a special out of hours viewing of the exhibition with Director Katherine Purcell, who many of you will know already from previous visits, so you can be assured of a wonderful morning learning about the history of the brooch.
The exhibition will span the Bronze Age to the Contemporary and include loans from museums including the V & A, the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Musée Lalique and the Schmuckmusuem, though the majority of the exhibits will be from private collections.
Brooches of wide ranging-inspirations and themes will be featured, as will Royal, French Imperial and Russian Imperial examples.
From Sarah Bernhardt to Suffragettes, Sir Edward Burne-Jones to Salavador Dali, famous wearers and designers will be represented as well as the most distinguished jewellers from the 19th to 21st centuries.
Tickets will be limited.
