About this Event
Join us for an interdisciplinary STEM brunch exploring how technology consumption, toxic e-waste, and environmental health connect communities from the Democratic Republic of Congo to our own.
As SemegaChange continues expanding its global impact through education, environmental justice, and STEM empowerment, the organization is launching its Washington D.C. Hub Pilot Event to spark critical conversations around technology, health, and global responsibility.
This year, SemegaChange, in collaboration with the Black Girls in Pre- Health Collective (BGPC), will host “Tech, Toxins, and Truth: From Congo to Our Communities,” an event dedicated to unpacking the hidden environmental and health consequences of global technology consumption.
The event will explore the e-waste crisis affecting the Democratic Republic of Congo, the toxic exposures linked to electronic waste processing, and the role that overconsumption of technology in developed countries plays in perpetuating these global challenges
As part of the event, SemegaChange will host a Tech Drive, encouraging attendees to donate unused electronic devices that will be refurbished and redirected to support Virtual STEM Mentorship programs, ensuring technology becomes a tool for opportunity rather than waste.
P.S bring unsused technology for us to refurbish and use for our STEM Virtual Mentorship program and provide it to students in our program!
