About this Event
Join us for a wonderful lecture on the history of the Alexandria Fire Department. This lecture will cover the history of the five colonial fire companies, the City’s Great Fire, and their transition to a municipal paid department. Learn about firefighting efforts, community efforts, and how Alexandria fought against the flames.
This presentation is lead by Catherine Weinraub, a Historian of the Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association. Catherine is an expert at leading tours and is currently engrossed in conducting extensive genealogical research to unearth the rich histories of Ivy Hill Cemetery.
