Learn about the history of wartime recycling (then called ‘salvage’) in this illustrated talk by Dr Henry Irving "From Bones to Books to Blitz scrap - what London Recycled during the Second World War".

Drawing on collections from The London Archives and examples from the exhibition ‘London in the Second World War’, Henry will explore how food waste became a weapon of war, why libraries were an unlikely site of wartime activity, and what happened to the mountains of rubble created by the Blitz.

Before the talk, you'll have the opportunity to browse a selection of original archival material, and after the talk there will be a Q&A session.

This event takes place at The London Archives in Clerkenwell, in association with the School of Advanced Study, University of London.
