About this Event
From Argentina to Macedon - Around the World in Chamber Music
Rémi Barrette and Erik Johnson-Scherger (classical guitar and violin) will perform a program of folkloric classical chamber music by composers from around the world.
Rémi Barrette (guitar), originally from the Outaouais region, studied guitar with Patrick Roux at the Conservatoire de musique de Gatineau, where he obtained a “Prix avec grande distinction”. He has studied with the greatest masters of the classical guitar, such as Manuel Barrueco, Roland Dyens, Leo Brouwer and Sergio Assad. He is also the winner of numerous first prizes in various national and international competitions. A founding member of the Trio Alla Grande, he leads a career as soloist, chamber musician, teacher, composer, and producer.
Erik Johnson-Scherger is a forward-looking violinist and violist, happily based in Ottawa, Ontario. As a performer, he is a genre-defying chamber-musician at home in liminal space. As a pedagogue, he believes strongly in helping his students self actualize by connecting to and developing their own musical voice, and by creating an audiation-centred framework for effortless physical execution.
Erik is grateful to have played a diverse array of venues - from art galleries and local festivals all the way to Massey Hall and the National Arts Centre - and maintains an active performing schedule as a member of Musk Ox, Side-Eye & Grace, Norteno, Phosphor String Duo, Ensemble Allure, and ELK Trio. His teaching practice includes positions at Carleton University and SuzukiMusic, in addition to a healthy private studio.
