FREE concert; NO TICKET REQUIRED. "Singers of superb musicianship and vocal allure." New York Polyphony will present a program of ancient and modern unaccompanied vocal music. Critically acclaimed for a “rich, natural sound that’s larger and more complex than the sum of its parts,” (NPR) and as “singers of superb musicianship and vocal allure” (The New Yorker), New York Polyphony is one of the foremost vocal chamber ensembles active today. Their innovative program of ancient and modern unaccompanied vocal music takes the listener on an international journey from 12th-century English chant and 15th-century Franco-Flemish sacred polyphony to 16th-century Italian Renaissance madrigals and popular American songs of the early 20th century. The elegantly crafted tapestry of sacred and secular polyphony is paired with sleek 20th and 21st century works commissioned by the ensemble from Paul Moravec (US), Andrew Smith (Norway), and Akemi Naito (Japan), stretching boundaries of sonority and tonality.
