Zachary Lucky
For close to fifteen years, Zachary Lucky has steadily been building a name for himself on Canadian and International stages alike often performing hundreds of shows every single year. He has performed at festivals such as the Regina Folk Festival, The Northern Lights Bluegrass Festival, Home County Folk Festival, Dawson City Music Festival, The Northern Lights Festival Boreal and Mariposa Folk Festival in Canada – and at International festivals such as Wickerman (Scotland), Latitude (UK), the Static Roots Festival (Germany) and has three times been an official showcasing artist at Folk Alliance International.
Zachary Lucky is unapologetically old-school country, armed with a husky, baritone voice. The Grandson of Canadian Country Music pioneer Smilin’ Johnnie Lucky, he often receives comparisons to songwriters such as Gordon Lightfoot and Kris Kristofferson. He sings of Canadian places and people as knowingly as he might Townes Van Zandt or the Rio Grande. It’s a relatable show on many levels, and conjures universal feelings that have passed through our collective timelines. Already hailed as a master storyteller by outlets ranging from No Depression to The Globe and Mail, Zachary is becoming a legend in his own right and has safely reserved his spot at the table of Canadian roots royalty.
Zachary released his new album The Wind on November 1st, 2024, which amassed 300,000 streams within the first month of its release and has been called “one of his favourite records of the year” by Brad Wheeler in The Globe and Mail.
Over the course of his career, Zachary’s music has been featured in numerous television shows and movies – most recently in the Netflix series The Ranch. You could also hear his songs featured in shows such as A Summer Romance (Hallmark Summer Movie), Arctic Air (CBC) and Continuum (Showcase).
“Zachary Lucky’s ‘The Wind’ is in the classic mould of an Americana troubadour album – it’s up there with the best, alongside Guy Clark, Tom Rush, and Townes Van Zandt.” – KLOF Magazine “The Wind from Zachary Lucky, deepens Lucky’s growing reputation as a laureate poet of the rootless and restless, the lonesome and forsaken.” – Great Dark Wonder “An instant rapport with the audience bolstered by masterful stagecraft, incredibly strong songs, and dynamic and nuanced musicianship. Country music for everyone. I couldn’t recommend this show more.” – Matt Large (Montreal Folk Festival)

Barry James Payne
Barry James Payne is no stranger to Stratford audiences having performed in many line-ups over the years from solo shows to guesting with the Stratford Symphony Orchestra and INNERChamber Factory Ensemble.
He was Rant Maggie Rant’s guitarist, main songwriter and producer for over 12 years, touring with them all over Canada and into the States, until leaving the band in 2022. Prior to that, Payne released his debut String Bone record nadir in 2009 and toured Europe the following year. He has performed and/or recorded with the late Bill Bourne, Rick Taylor, Ginger St. James, Sarah Jane Scouten, Allison Brown, Bob Egan (formerly of Blue Rodeo & Wilco) and many others.
A songwriter at heart, Payne embraces the long-standing songsmith traditions of Bob Dylan, The Band, The Beatles, Neil Young and relatively more recent writers such as Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Jeff Tweedy, Colter Wall and Ryan Adams among so many others.
Turning a phrase into an epic rocker or a newspaper article into a scathing testimony for change stomp, he embraces the role of the songwriter as a vehicle for society’s ills and to tell the truth of the street he has experienced in his travels.
From London, Ontario to Vancouver to Toronto to Montreal and finally to Stratford, he has lived a life of many ups and downs and it shows in his expressive and sometimes bombastic and dark songs interspersed with well-placed uptempo toe-tappers.
Payne will be finishing up his 3rd record Coping Mechanisms in Calgary this September with Nashville-based Canadian record producer extraordinaire, Steve Dawson (Allison Russell, Birds Of Chicago, Matt Andersen) and will be singing songs off his new record.
