About the Band: Spark ’n Cinder 🎶
Spark ’n Cinder is a legendary Chico-based “world beat” band known for their high-energy fusion of rock, soul, roots, and reggae. A true cornerstone of the North State music scene, the group is currently celebrating an incredible 50 years of music.
Formed in 1976 through the merger of two local bands—Jackstraw and the Butte Creek Family Band—they were originally known as The East-West Transcendental Spark and Cinder Band.
With an improvisational, jam-band style often compared to the Grateful Dead, Spark ’n Cinder has become a staple at beloved local venues like The Commons Social Empourium and The Barn at Meriam Park.
Their music lives on through releases like Taboo, available on platforms such as Apple Music.
