Join the Parker Hill Library on July 12 for a showing of Children of a Lesser God, in which a new speech teacher at a school for the deaf falls in love with the janitor, a deaf woman speechless by choice. Directed by Randa Haines, this 1986 film was the first Best Picture Oscar nominee by a female director, and its star Marlee Matlin was the first (and to date only) deaf person to win as Best Actress.
