About this Event

The Kate Hinote Trio is a contemporary and unique alt-folk ensemble featuring Kate Hinote on vocals, Matthew Parmenter on violin, and David Johnson on acoustic guitar. Known for the melodic interplay between voice and violin, as well creating dynamic and engaging indie-folk music, the Trio performs predominantly original material, while weaving in a handful of retro and modern covers to which they have applied their unique sound. The group leans into narrative-driven songwriting on their sophomore album, “Stowaways” (out June 2025), showcasing 10 new original songs that establish the signature sound they have passionately been delivering at live shows for over five years.

Led by award-winning vocalist, Kate Hinote, the Detroit-based Kate Hinote Trio also features Matthew Parmenter (Discipline) on violin and David Johnson (The Blueflowers) on acoustic guitar. This contemporary alt-folk acoustic ensemble is known for the melodic interplay between voice and violin, as well as creating dynamic and engaging live performances with their original material, as well as a handful of select retro and modern covers to which they have applied their unique sound.

The group leans into narrative-driven songwriting on their sophomore album, “Stowaways” (out June 2025), showcasing 10 new original songs that establish the signature sound they have passionately been delivering at live shows for over five years—with most tracks built around distinct characters and imagined lives, while others tap into more personal reflections from Hinote herself. Despite maintaining full-time careers outside of music, the members of Kate Hinote Trio have cultivated a loyal following through consistent touring, performing in venues and festivals throughout Michigan, Ohio, New York, West Virginia, and Kentucky, including a featured performance and interview on NPR/PRX’s syndicated program Red Barn Radio.
