AfterHours at Blockheads (Raje)
Raje — short for Raj Rajeshwari Sengar — is a singer-songwriter from Bhopal whose artistry carries the quiet royalty of her name, minus the trust fund. She began singing at six and writing poems at eleven, shaped by a home filled with Hindi literature (both her parents were Hindi teachers) and the influence of a classmate who once sang on the radio and left her spellbound.
Her early musical world revolved around retro Bollywood classics and ghazals, until a teenage obsession with Vh1 broadened her sonic palette. Over the years, she trained across Indian classical, semi-classical, and western vocals, building a foundation that would later define her versatility as an artist and coach.
After moving to Mumbai for her undergraduate studies, she joined the street-busking collective NSPA — a decision that opened the door to a thriving live career. Since then, she has travelled across India, performing at more than 2000 venues, from pubs and clubs to corporate stages. Alongside her performance journey, her deep training has led her to teach students across age groups, through collaborations with schools, academies, and even celebrity-led initiatives.
Although Raje has written over 200 songs and composed more than 30, it took two personal losses — her brother’s diagnosis with ALS and her father’s passing — for her to confront the music she had been carrying within her. That turning point reshaped her creative voice and her sense of urgency.
Today, her writing explores everything that makes us human: love and lust, grief and addiction, the grind of hustle culture, the tenderness of reparenting the inner child, the weight of mortality, and the small beautiful truths that emerge from it all. And as she continues to evolve, so does her music — honest, intimate, and unmistakably her own.
