This is a call to worship drag artistry making a splash in the holy waters of the Fresh Fish, Sway’s sacred drag competition inspired by RuPaul’s Drag Race. Every second Saturday for nine consecutive months, contestants from around the region make a mecca to perform before a panel of judges who provide live commentary.
Since its 2014 debut, Fresh Fish has divinely birthed a new era of drag in the Bible Belt, launching careers for dozens of the 100+ drag queens who have been featured as contestants. The star-studded list includes RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 Winner Symone, the first-ever winner of Fresh Fish.
But the journey to the Hall of Fame has changed. In Season 8, four new contestants will compete each month October-December. One in four will be eliminated. Survivors will advance to ranked rounds in January-March, which also entail eliminations.
The rest of the schedule calls for an April lip-sync-for-your-soul revival, semifinals in May, and a Red-Carpet Pride-Month Grand Finale & Crowning in June.
