Interested in exploring a rare Habitat Protection Area while hiking at a faster pace? We have great news for you! Join us for our newest spring hike offering - our Fresh Air & Flowers Hike!
This experience is designed for hikers who want to do just that - hike!
Unlike our interpretive guided Habitat Protection Hikes, our Fresh Air & Flowers are faster-paced, and geared more toward individuals who enjoy hiking for fitness. These hikes will include minimal stops.
Groups must stay together, so please review the hike details below to ensure you are prepared. If you would like to hike independently and are unsure of whether this is a good fit, please hike Wednesday - Friday during open hours, or sign up for an open-access hike day.
Specific Hike Information
These guided hikes include MINIMAL STOPS and groups will STAY TOGETHER.
For public safety, rain and red flag warnings will cancel hikes.
HIKE DETAILS
Time: 11:00 AM - approximately 1:30pm - ~3 miles
- Note: the end time is an approximation, and will vary on the individual group and hiking speed.

What to expect
- Each ticket is for ONE PARKING SPACE and as many people as you can safely and legally fit in your vehicle. Tickets are NOT per person, so please only sign up for one if you are bringing one vehicle.
- This guided hike will have 500 elevation feet change as we hike a full loop along various trails.
- A volunteer will lead the group, and the group must stay together
- There will be minimal stops along the trail for Fresh Air & Flower Hikes
What to bring
- Comfortable hiking shoes
- Hiking poles are recommended
- Water
- Snacks
- Sun protection
- Appropriate clothing
Important notes - Please review before registering:
- CANCELLATIONS: For public safety, rain and red flag warnings will cancel hikes.
- IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND AFTER BOOKING PLEASE cancel your reservation so others may attend
- PARKING: Each ticket is for one parking spot, you will only need one ticket per car. Feel free to bring as many people in your car as you can safely and legally fit. You may also choose to use alternative transportation and get dropped off at the front gate, walk, or ride a bicycle.
- SPRING HIKE DETAILS: To help protect this sensitive and unique ecosystem, in March, April, and May the trails will be open by reservation only on Saturdays and Sundays. During this time, the public must sign up here for a volunteer-led hike to access the Bay Checkerspot trail, the Tule Elk Trail, and the Serpentine Spring Trail.
About Máyyan ‘Ooyákma - Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve
Máyyan ‘Ooyákma - Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve features serpentine grasslands which provide refuge for a wide variety of rare plants and wildlife, some of which have teetered on the edge of extinction. On these guided hikes visitors will learn about the native wildflower blooms and the rare Bay Checkerspot Butterfly population found within the preserve! This preserve is managed, maintained, and overseen by Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority (OSA), and we're excited to have you join us!
To help protect this sensitive and unique ecosystem, in March, April, and May the trails will be open by reservation ONLY on Saturdays and Sundays. During this time, the public must sign up here for a docent-led hike to access the Bay Checkerspot trail, the Tule Elk Trail, and the Serpentine Spring Trail.
