Please join us at National City Christian Church this Friday, May 3, at 12:15 p.m., for our free weekly Music at Midday recital. We are delighted to be welcoming French organist Maurice Clerc who will perform works by four French composers:
• Paraphrase on “Victimae paschali laudes” – Charles Tournemire
• Méditation – Maurice Duruflé
• Fantaisie – Charles Fleury
• Nativité – Jean Langlais
• Scherzo (Notre-Dame Cathédrale, 1974) – Pierre Cochereau
Maurice Clerc stands in continuity with the great French tradition while drawing his energy from the dynamism of our time. His has performed numerous concerts—approximately 1,300 recitals in some twenty countries, including 28 tours in North America. Traveling four continents for forty years, from Europe to Australia, he has played in such prestigious places as Notre-Dame de Paris, the Cathedral Saint Patrick of New York, the Dom de Lübeck, the Basilica of Saint Mark in Venice, Saint Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal, Saint Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne, the Auditorium of the N.H.K. of Tokyo, and the Cultural Centre of Hong-Kong. Maurice Clerc is Emeritus organist of the Cathedral in Dijon (France) after serving as the titular organist of this great instrument from 1972 to 2018. He was also a professor at the Conservatory of Dijon and lecturer at the University. He is a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
