Kilnside Folk Events Presents:COSMOS CHOCOLAT
French Balfolk Dance Workshop + Bal
Town Hall, Swadlincote, S. Derbyshire
Tuesday 28th April 2026
6:45pm doors, 7pm dance workshop, 8-10pm bal
The exciting and brilliant French quartet Cosmos Chocolat is touring in the UK and I am very excited to be hosting them as my very first event under my new Kilnside Folk Events banner, and the first French balfolk dance workshop and bal Swadlincote has ever seen!
These award-winning musicians embody the freshness of a new generation of trad artists.
Drawing on the traditional repertoires of Gascony, Brittany, Poitou, the Basque Country and Central France, their music combines traditional tunes and original compositions through unique arrangements. Diatonic accordian, clarinet, hurdy-gurdy, violin, and boha (bagpipes from Gascony) intertwine with voices to create a soundscape that is both rich and refined.
The line-up is Lucie Laigle - hurdy gurdy, vocals; Naël Tripoli - boha, diatonic accordian; Anaïs Perrinel - violin, vocals; and Gabriel Chiapello -diatonic accordian, clarinet.
Members of the band will lead a dance workshop before the main dance. If balfolk is something new to you, there will be experienced dancers on hand to introduce the basic steps so you can enjoy dancing with confidence.
There is no bar available on the night but you are welcome to bring your own drinks. Please take your litter home with you afterwards.
