About this Event

For Valentine’s weekend we are pleased to present the 1990’s iconic Australian comedy-drama Muriel’s Wedding. It’s not your traditional romantic comedy but a film that is funny and poignant in equal measure.
Muriel Heslop (Toni Collette in her first big screen role) dreams of leaving the small town she grew up in, her bullying father and shallow, backstabbing friends. An unexpected opportunity sees her taking advantage of her trusting mother and stealing the family savings - propelling her in the way of a new start, a new friendship and the wedding that she dreams will fix all her insecurities.
With a fantastic soundtrack featuring so many Abba hits and a brilliant cast of enjoyably dislikable characters it doesn’t feel like this film is just over 30 years old. It feels like I could have rented it from the video store yesterday. Muriel’s Wedding is a Valentine to friendship and a great film to enjoy on the big screen, with great Aussie themed food, popcorn and our unique cinema set-up.
Join us for the comedy classic with a celluloid inspired pre-show meal in the Drill Hall Cafe or just come for the film and freshly popped corn.
