About this Event
This workshop is part of our Heritage Community Project. These series of workshops are free to attend and you will be part of the creation of our final dress piece!
Please note that all work completed in this workshop will be contributed to our final piece and won’t go home with you.
About the project:
Stitch Department will be collaborating on a heritage project with Department, Ryde and Shademakers UK, inspired by the history of the Department building on Cross Street, Ryde. This building has a fascinating history of ironmongery, hardware, corset making, millinery, tailors, cobblers and bridal.
Stitch Department will be creating an installation for the upcoming exhibition. We will be making a dress art piece, honouring the building's heritage. During these workshops, we will create small pieces using several different sewing techniques, linking to different aspects of the building’s history which will then be pieced together to create the final dress.
About this workshop:
This workshop will be teaching the interesting technique of freehand embroidery on the sewing machine. Once this technique has been mastered, you can be so creative with how you can continue using it, and create amazing pieces!
We will be creating drawings and writing using thread to create images inspired by the building’s history.
