Allowing yourself time to feel, to heal, to move, to breathe, to have fun, to just simply be with No judgement. No rules. No expectation. No hierarchy. No comparison. No steps to follow or get wrong. No dance police!
What to expect:
Opening Circle (with optional Rose Elixir)
A very warm welcome & some grounding practices to help you settle into your bodies & the space. There will be optional Rose Elixir, Marie's Homegrown Rose Medicine, made with love, as her alternative to Cacao. A beautiful, gentle elixir to ease your nervous system & open your heart.
The Dance Journey:
A barefoot freeform, intuitive movement practice combined to uplifting & liberating soundwave to help you loosen up & let go on the dancefloor. Reconnecting you with YOUR DANCE. Your birthright. Conscious Dance is based on the wisdom that our bodies know how they need and want to move in order to heal, strengthen, release stress and be nourished. We dance to EXPRESS, not impress. On the dancefloor, there is no talking as we drop the words so we can connect fully to the music & your body, dancing with whatever is present for you in any way that feels right for you. Step in perhaps feeling self conscious, anxious, or awkward (this is very normal!) and step out feeling elated, lighter & brighter! Move shyly, mildly or wildly! Anything goes...
The music:
Marie creates an bespoke, intuitive wave of music that is soothing, soulful, earthy, tribal, heart opening, euphoric & fun. Inspired by all genres of world beats, drums, rhythms and melodies. This practice is about dropping out of the busy mind and into the body/heart, allowing your movement to be inspired by the music.
All you have to do is turn up, tune in & be moved.
We will end our dance journey relaxing with some grounding, gentle sounds & silence taking time to integrate our experience.
'JAMII ' - Our Community Djiembe
'JAMII' means belonging/community in Swahili. This drum, made in Africa, has been imported especially for our dancing community. He is big & beautiful and sits in the centre of the dancefloor for anyone to play if it calls you. This is for everyone, whether you have ever banged a drum or not, to bring more rhythm into our bodies & lives, like the ancient ways of community used to be. It is so magical & empowering when someone chooses to play it during our dance journey. There is no obligation to play ofcourse but if you feel drawn to, go for it :-)
Closing Circle / Community catch up
We finish with a closing circle and there will be community time at the end to connect & make new dancing friends with a fruit social & chocolate!
Who is this for?
This is an inclusive life practice for ALL ages, sizes, genders, fitness levels & health conditions. Absolutely no experience is required and you don't have to be a 'dancer' Is it time to commit to your wellbeing, to feel better about yourself & your body, to break free from self sabotage, stress & your overthinking mind? Or do you simply love music & miss your dancing days? Or perhaps you're seeking community & a sense of belonging? Each person comes for different reasons but all receive so much more than they came for.

The Dance Sanctuary has helped hundreds of dancing humans to FIND FREEDOM on the dancefloor for the past 13 years.
Marie is a skilled & intuitive space holder, facilitator & music maker on a mission to open hearts wherever she goes! Because she knows, from personal experience, that when a heart feels safe enough to open, decades & lifetimes of spontaneous healing can occur. Marie has an innate skill at making people feel instantly welcome , at ease & cherished, helping people move through any blocks they may have to moving freely on the dancefloor.
