With no heavy equipment, you will move underwater with ease and find a complete sense of becoming one with the ocean. Learning to freedive is much easier than you think with our range of recreational freediving programs for all ages. Taking the Freediver course is your first step toward discovering why freediving is becoming a popular way to explore beneath the waves.
To enroll in a Freediver course you must be at least 12 years old. You need strong swimming skills and in good physical health to successfully complete this course. No prior experience with snorkeling, skin diving or freediving is required.
Academics
The Freediver course consists of three main phases:
Knowledge development about freediving principles through independent study with Freediver eLearning
Confined water session to learn breathhold techniques as well as static and dynamic apnea. Goal - static apnea of 90 seconds and dynamic apnea of 25 metres/80 feet.
Open water sessions to practice free immersion and constant weight freedives, plus proper buddy procedures. Goal - constant weight freedive of 10 metres/30 feet.
Equipment
In the Freediver course, you learn to use a mask, snorkel and fins, and may also use a wetsuit and weight belt. A well fitted open-cell freediving wetsuit with a hood will be an important tool to completing this course. Using gear designed specifically for freediving is best. However, in this course, you may be able to use snorkeling equipment you already own.
Skills and Training - Sample Course Schedule
Friday - Knowledge Development Classroom Session & Swim test (200 meter swim unassisted)
Saturday - Confined water (pool) training sessions for Breathing, Stretching, Static Apnea, Dynamic Apnea, Rescues and Surface Skills.
Sunday - Open Water Training for Surface Skills, Free Immersion, Dynamic Apnea dives to target depths, Rescues and open diving skills. * Open Water Fees may apply. In Utah we can train year-round thanks to warm springs in the area, but you will still need a wetsuit for most locations.
