What Happens at a Session?
Laurel Murphy will compose wordless musical parts on the fly--just sing what is sung to you and be amazed at the soulful grooves, heavenly harmonies and magical melodies we cook up.
This is open to anyone who loves to sing and is open to something new. Feeling rusty? You’ll get into shape. If you're an adventurous singer, you'll have the chance to stretch out and solo!
SongRise is about connection and authenticity, all the while strengthening music skills. It's also about growing a like-minded, warm-hearted community of singers who are open to seeing what we can create together.
Comments from participants:
"These sessions transcend mere music making as they include life lessons in inclusiveness, collaboration, mindfulness, thoughtfulness, and mutual respect. The practice of these traits in combination with music making leads me to a heightened sense of peace, joy, and greater appreciation of those around me”
“...We are learning from one another how to be brave ...We are collectively creating unique and never before heard sounds that inspire depth, beauty and freedom…”
"Laurel welcomes each voice into a uniquely meaningful experience, fostering connection even though we are newly in each other’s lives. And our voices simply soar in the meeting space we’ve been granted! “
"SongRise is healing me. Every Tuesday evening I feel changed. I feel heard. I feel supported. I feel like life is juicy and alive again."
This kind of music making is ancient. It resonates in our DNA. And it's fun! Spread the word to your friends who love to sing and don't forget to bring drinking water.
*This singing experiences is geared towards adults. Teens may join if they are mature, keen about singing and can follow instructions.
*Please stay home if you are at sick or symptomatic. We are singing in a beautiful hall with high ceilings and good airflow. Masks are welcome.
