Art Labs is a series of artist-led workshops connecting young audiences with artists, artmaking and the National Gallery collection.
In this Art Lab, join artist Janet Fieldhouse, Kalaw Lagaw Ya/Meriam Mir people in a charm doll making workshop inspired by her work in the exhibition, Of this Earth.
Begin with an exhibition floor talk led by National Gallery artist educators. See key contemporary First Nations ceramic works from the National Collection and gain insight into the diverse narratives, techniques and innovations showcased throughout the exhibition.
Following the talk, work with Janet in a hands-on workshop to create a charm doll using air-drying clay, raffia and found objects, while learning about the significance of charms in Torres Strait Islander culture and how they are used to attract good and push away harm. Shape, decorate and personalise your charm doll to invite things you wish in your life.
