The Takoma Park Community Band will present "Musical Travelogue Across the USA" in a free concert highlighting the vast and varied geography of the United States. The concert will include compositions by John Philip Sousa, the Beach Boys, and several film composers. Readings from the literary works of Dorothy Parker, Mark Twain, Maya Angelou, and other authors will accompany the musical selections. The concert is free, and donations will be collected to support the band. Doors open at 7 pm, and no tickets or reservations are required.
The band has served as Takoma Park’s official city band since 1980, and their extensive repertoire includes classical music, show tunes, marches, jazz and pop music.
The Takoma Park Arts series is organized by the City's Arts and Humanities Division and features a wide range of free cultural events, including film screenings, art exhibitions, theater, dance, and concerts at the Takoma Park Community Center.
