About this Event

About this event

Join us for our joint training evenet with the National Education Nature Park NW team on Friday 22nd May, 12–3pm (lunch included) at LJMU's dedicated Outdoor Learning Area at the John Lennon Art and Design Academy 🌱

The National Education Nature Park is a free programme for schools that supports young people to explore, connect with and be curious about nature in their own school grounds.

Even if your outdoor space is mostly grey, you can still take part – and you’ll almost certainly discover nature you didn’t realise was there.

This hands‑on, outdoor session will introduce you to Nature Park activities through practical experience, giving you the confidence to use them with your pupils back at school.

What we’ll be doing

During the session, you’ll take part in a selection of Nature Park activities, which may include:

  • 🕵️ Hidden Nature Challenge – uncovering biodiversity in unexpected places
  • 🌱 Grassland Plant Survey – exploring plant life and simple fieldwork techniques
  • 🦸 Habitat Heroes – practical actions to improve habitats in school grounds

These activities are:

  • Directly linked to Primary Science, Geography and Literacy
  • Designed to be low-cost and accessible, whatever your school setting
  • Tangible actions that can contribute to your school’s Climate Action Plan

Who is this for?
  • Primary teachers
  • SEN and alternative provision staff
  • Geography, Science and sustainability leads
  • School staff involved in Climate Action Planning or Eco‑Schools work

No prior experience of outdoor learning or ecology is needed.

What to bring
  • Weather‑appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear
  • Curiosity and a willingness to have a go

We will be outside for most of the session, whatever the weather.

Why attend?

✅ Build confidence in using outdoor learning activities
✅ See how “grey” school grounds can still support nature
✅ Take away practical ideas you can use immediately
✅ Connect sustainability, curriculum learning and Climate Action Planning
✅ Enjoy lunch and networking with other educators
