Auckland Sea Kayaks is running some free professional development paddle sessions for Outdoor Education teachers in Auckland, and we’re offering a 3-hour Introduction to Sea Kayaking course on Saturday April 5th. The goal of the session is to provide a solid foundation in the essential knowledge and skills needed for safe and enjoyable paddling. We’re partnering with EONZ, the national professional organisation that leads, supports, and influences education outside the classroom.
This hands-on session covers everything you need for safe and enjoyable paddling, including:
- Essential kayak equipment and what to wear
- Kayak design and how it impacts performance
- Key paddling techniques—forward, reverse, sideways, turning, and steering
- Support strokes for stability
- Wet-exits and capsize recovery to build confidence on the water
WE PROVIDE
Single kayak, paddle, PFD, spray deck, pump, spray jacket pretty much we kit you out with all the specialist paddling gear.
PLEASE BRING
- Change of clothes
- Water bottle
- Footwear you are happy to get wet
- Clothes you are happy to wet (wool/poly prop) or wet suit
The location this course is planned to be run at Mission Bay Beach, if the weather does not allow we will run this at Orakei Basin with more information shared if required
