About this Event
Join Mexic-Arte Museum for Family Day on Sunday, May 17th! Aritst Angélica Vásquez will demonstrate techniques for creating clay figurines. During the demonstration Vásquez will create a figurine of the Virgin of Guadalupe and show some examples of her completed artwork.
About Angélica: Angélica Delfina Vásquez Cruz was born in Santa María Atzompa. Her parents, Delfina Cruz Díaz and Ernesto Vásquez Reyes, taught her artisan works and how to fashion toys, small jars, pots, and pans. After learning how to decorate handicrafts, Vásquez Cruz began making her own crafts in her own style, inspired by the mythology, culture, and folklore of her home state, Oaxaca, MX, which often includes angels and local animals. Vásquez Cruz has been recognized as a master of Oaxaca folk art through her pottery. She works with local materials, constructed traditionally and then wood fired upon completion, making each piece uniquely by hand.
