About this Event
This Easter half term we want to get as many families as we can confident in cycling! All children aged 5 - 11 years old welcome, along with a family member!
So whether your child is brand new to cycling or they have a bike but aren't yet pedalling, bring them down to improve their skills, build confidence and make friends with other keen cyclists.
Parents/carers please bring along your bikes too, or borrow one of ours to enjoy cycling together. Whether you haven't been on a bike in years, or you're out regularly, join in to share in the fun and encourage your child.
We will have qualified Bikeability instructors present for each session. Please feel free to book siblings on to the same sessions as we will group children of similar ability and/or age to play games and master skills that will help them develop into confident riders.
Even if your child cannot yet cycle without stabilisers, we can develop their skills- just take off their stabilisers and we will do the rest!
So all that's left to do is book your child a ticket to reserve their place on our cycling sessions!
DR Bike will also be at our event to fix any squeaky brakes, make adjustments and demonstrate general bike maintenance -FREE of charge.
What do they need to bring?
Children will need a suitable bike (correct size for their height, with working front AND back brakes and pumped up tyres), a helmet and a water bottle! Please remove stabilisers before the lesson. Please note that scooters will be available too, if your child doesn't have a bike they are welcome to bring their own scooter with them also!
What time should we arrive and when does the session end?*
Morning registration for the session starts at 9.45am. Please arrive at the main school car park at 9.45am to sign your child in.
Morning lessons finish at 11.45am.
Afternoon registration for the session starts at 12.30pm. Please arrive at the main school car park at 12.30pm to sign your child in.
Afternoon lessons finish at 2.30pm.
Parents/Carers stay for the event, you're welcome to bring a bike or borrow one of ours to join in!
* Parking is available on Wellhouse Lane- the main school entrance will be closed.
We will continue the sessions even if it rains, so pack a waterproof coat! Sessions will only be cancelled if the weather becomes a safety hazard.
Please note that all Instructors are DBS checked and have the relevant qualifications to coach. First Aiders will also be on site.
Agenda for beginners-
Each day children will learn and practice:
> Dinosaur legs
> Gliding
> Pedal Ready
> Start/stop
Once they have mastered these skills they will move into the next group!
Agenda for those who learn to pedal-
Each day different activities and games will be used to develop the following skills:
Cycle control -including setting off, cruising, slowing down, braking and stopping.
Speed and skills- including gears and how to use them, cornering safely, and endurance.Cycle safety- signalling, communication, spacial awareness and looking after your bike.
